The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination is a milestone for Bangladeshi students. After the exams, most students anxiously wait for their Grade Point Average (GPA). To remove the confusion, this guide explains how the SSC GPA system works and provides a free calculator that follows the official grading rules.

SSC GPA Calculator - Bangladesh

Calculate your SSC GPA based on your subject marks, grades, or points.

What is SSC GPA?

GPA stands for Grade Point Average. It summarises your performance across all SSC subjects on a scale of 0 to 5. A GPA of 5.00 represents outstanding achievement, while 0.00 means fail. Your SSC GPA is important for college admission and scholarship opportunities.

Bangladesh SSC Grading System (2025 Update)

The Bangladeshi education boards use a 7‑point grading scale. Each subject carries a mark out of 100. Your letter grade and corresponding GPA depend on your marks:

MarksGPALetter GradeMeaning
80–1005.00A+Outstanding
70–794.00AExcellent
60–693.50A‑Very good
50–593.00BGood
40–492.00CSatisfactory
33–391.00DPass
0–320.00FFail

How to Use the SSC GPA Calculator

Our web‑based calculator eliminates manual math. Follow these steps (also marked up with HowTo schema):

  • Select your group (Science, Business Studies or Humanities). Each group has compulsory and elective subjects.

  • Enter grades or points. You can choose either letter grades (A+, A, etc.) or numeric points (5.0, 4.0, etc.), or marks (80, 72, 56, etc.), from drop‑downs for each subject. The subject list adjusts automatically based on your group and religion.

  • Include your optional (4th) subject. For Science, options include Higher Math and Agriculture; for other groups, choose the relevant elective.

  • Click “Calculate GPA.” The calculator displays a table with each subject, its grade, point value and your group/religion selections.

  • Review the result. It shows your total GPA, plus buttons to reset, print, download as PDF and share on social media.

The interface validates your input: it prevents selecting the same subject twice and alerts you if any grade is missing.

SSC GPA Formula & Optional Subject Rules

SSC results typically cover 10 subjects: 4 compulsory subjects (Bangla, English, Mathematics and ICT), 5 elective subjects, and 1 optional subject. While all subjects have marks, the optional subject follows a special rule:

  • Sum the grade points for the nine compulsory and elective subjects.

  • For the optional subject, subtract 2.0 points and add only the remaining value. In other words, points above GPA 2.0 count as a bonus. For example, an A+ (5.0) in the optional subject adds 3.0 bonus points (5.0 – 2.0) to your total.

  • Divide the total points by 9 (the number of non‑optional subjects) to obtain your final GPA

Without a 4th subject. If you choose not to include an optional subject, simply sum the points from your nine subjects and divide by 9.

SSC GPA Calculation Examples

The following examples illustrate the process for each group. The grades chosen are illustrative.

Science Group Example

SubjectGradePoint
BanglaA+5.0
EnglishA4.0
MathematicsA+5.0
ICTA4.0
PhysicsA4.0
ChemistryA4.0
BiologyA‑3.5
Bangladesh & Global StudiesB3.0
ReligionA4.0
Optional –  Higher Math or Agricultural StudiesA+5.0
  1. Sum non‑optional points: 5 + 4 + 5 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 3.5 + 3 + 4 = 36.5.

  2. Optional bonus: 5.0 – 2.0 = 3.0.

  3. Total points = 36.5 + 3.0 = 39.5.

  4. GPA = 39.5 ÷ 9 ≈ 4.39.

Business Studies Group Example

SubjectGradePoint
BanglaA4.0
EnglishA4.0
Mathematics/Business MathA4.0
ICTB3.0
AccountingA+5.0
Business EntrepreneurshipA4.0
Finance & BankingA‑3.5
Bangladesh & Global StudiesA4.0
ReligionB3.0
Optional – Higher Math or Agricultural StudiesB3.0
  1. Sum non‑optional points: 4 + 4 + 4 + 3 + 5 + 4 + 3.5 + 4 + 3 = 34.5.

  2. Optional bonus: 3.0 – 2.0 = 1.0.

  3. Total points = 34.5 + 1.0 = 35.5.

  4. GPA = 35.5 ÷ 9 ≈ 3.94.

Humanities Group Example

SubjectGradePoint
BanglaB3.0
EnglishB3.0
MathematicsC2.0
ICTC2.0
Civics & CitizenshipA4.0
General ScienceB3.0
History & Culture of IslamA4.0
EconomicsA‑3.5
ReligionB3.0
Optional – Agriculture or Home ScienceA4.0
  1. Sum non‑optional points: 3 + 3 + 2 + 2 + 4 + 3 + 4 + 3.5 + 3 = 27.5.

  2. Optional bonus: 4.0 – 2.0 = 2.0.

  3. Total points = 27.5 + 2.0 = 29.5.

  4. GPA = 29.5 ÷ 9 ≈ 3.28.

These examples highlight how the optional subject can boost your GPA if you score above C. Conversely, a low grade in the optional subject does not drag down your average.
