Privacy Policy

Introduction

This policy explains what personal information sahajtools.com (“SahajTools”, “we”, “us”) collects when you use the site, how that information is used, who else handles it, and what choices you have. It describes how the site works today, and it avoids listing practices we do not have.

For the information described here, we are the “controller”: the party that decides why and how it is used. You can contact us at sahajtools@gmail.com.

The policy is written with the principles of laws such as the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA in mind. We have not been audited or certified under any of them, and we do not claim formal compliance with a particular law. Where such a law applies to how we handle your information, we will respect the rights it gives you.

Scope of this policy

This policy applies to sahajtools.com: the calculators, category pages, articles, and the way you contact us by email. It does not apply to other websites we link to or to the services of our providers, which have their own policies (see Service providers and Third-party links).

Information we collect

We separate what we collect today, what we might collect depending on which features a calculator has, and what we do not collect at all.

What we collect today

Information you send us. If you email us, we receive your email address, your name if it appears in your email account or message, and whatever you write or attach. We use only what we need to answer you. Please do not send sensitive personal information such as health, financial or identity details. A statistics question does not need them.

Information collected automatically. When your browser requests a page or file, our hosting provider receives standard technical information: your IP address, the address of the page or file requested, the date and time, the browser and device type (from the user agent), the referring page if there is one, and the response status. This is needed to deliver the site, keep it secure and diagnose faults. We do not use it to identify or profile individual visitors.

Information collected by Google Analytics. Pages load Google Analytics 4, which reports how the site is used. Google receives your IP address, the page address and title, the referring page, the time of the visit, your browser, device, operating system and screen details, an approximate location derived from the IP address, and the events it records, which by default include page views, scrolls and outbound link clicks. It identifies a browser with cookies (see Cookies and similar technologies). We see the results as aggregated reports.

Information collected through Google AdSense. Pages that show advertising load Google AdSense. Google may receive your IP address, browser and device details, the page you are viewing, and identifiers stored in cookies or similar technologies, and uses them to choose, show, limit and measure ads and to prevent fraud. Depending on your location and settings, ads may be personalised. We do not receive information about individual visitors from AdSense. We see aggregate reports.

What we may collect, depending on features

Session storage. Some calculators, as they are published, may save the values you enter and your latest result in your browser's session storage, a temporary area in your browser, so that they are still there if you reload the page. This data stays on your device, is limited to that browser tab, is not sent to us, and is removed by your browser when you close the tab or window. You can also clear it in your browser settings. It is used only for the calculator's own inputs and results, and it is not a cookie.

Copy, share and PDF features. Calculators may offer to copy a result, share it, or create a PDF summary. Copying and PDF creation happen in your browser and are saved or copied by your own device, so they do not pass through our servers. If a calculator offers a share link, what is shared is what you choose to send, and if the link contains the values you entered, anyone who has the link can see them.

Embeddable calculators. Some calculators offer an embed code so another website can display a working copy of the calculator in a frame on their own page. An embedded calculator runs the same way as the version on our site: calculations happen in your browser, and we do not receive the values you enter. The embedded copy does not load Google Analytics or advertising from us. Once you embed a calculator on your own site, that site is responsible for its own privacy practices and any additional scripts or trackers it runs alongside the embed.

If a feature ever needs to send your information to a server, or to load code from another company beyond Google Analytics and Google AdSense, we will say so in this policy first.

What we do not collect

• Accounts, usernames or passwords. The site has no sign-in.
• Payment information. The site sells nothing and takes no payments.
• The values you enter into calculators, or the terms you type into search. These are processed in your browser and are not sent to us, and we do not send them to Google Analytics or AdSense.
• Your location, camera or microphone. The site does not ask for access to them.
• Advertising profiles of our own, or data from your social media accounts. Google may build advertising profiles through AdSense, as described under Advertising and third-party services.
• Sensitive categories of personal information, such as health, ethnicity or religion. We do not ask for these.

Cookies and similar technologies

SahajTools sets no cookies of its own, but the Google services described in this policy do set them. We use two kinds:

• Analytics cookies. Google Analytics stores identifiers in first-party cookies on sahajtools.com, with names beginning _ga, to tell visits and visitors apart and to measure use of the site.
• Advertising cookies and similar identifiers. Google AdSense, on pages that show ads, uses cookies and similar technologies, including ones set from Google's own domains, to show and measure ads, limit how often you see one, and detect invalid activity. These can be used to personalise ads.

In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, these cookies and similar technologies are switched off until you agree. Pages that show advertising display a consent message provided through Google's tools, and your choice decides whether analytics and advertising storage is used. That message is not shown on this Privacy Policy page, and pages that carry no advertising, such as About, Contact and Terms, do not display it, so on those pages analytics and advertising storage stays off in those regions. You can withdraw your choice at any time by deleting this site's cookies and storage in your browser, after which the message is shown again on your next visit to a page with ads. Elsewhere, where consent is not required, they work from your first visit and you can opt out as described under Advertising and third-party services, or by blocking cookies in your browser. Blocking them does not stop the calculators from working.

The session storage described above is not a cookie. It is not sent to any website, and it ends with the browser tab. Your browser may also keep copies of pages, fonts and images so that repeat visits load faster. That is ordinary browser caching, and you can clear it in your browser settings.

Browser signals such as Do Not Track do not change how the site behaves. If you use Global Privacy Control or a similar opt-out signal, Google handles it under its own policies.

How we use information

We use the information described above to:

• read and answer your messages, including reports of calculation errors and suggestions for new calculators;
• operate and secure the site and diagnose technical faults, which is the purpose of the technical data our hosting provider handles;
• correct and improve calculators and content, for example after someone reports an error;
• understand, in aggregate, which pages and calculators are used, so we know what to improve and what to build next;
• pay for running the site by showing advertising; and
• meet legal obligations and protect our rights.

We do not use your email correspondence for advertising, profiling or automated decision-making. Google's use of the data it collects through Analytics and AdSense is governed by Google's own policies. We do not publish your messages or your name without your permission.

Legal bases for processing

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, data protection law requires a legal basis for processing your personal information. For the limited processing described in this policy, ours are:

• Legitimate interests. Keeping the site running and secure, replying to messages you send us, and, where consent is not required, measuring aggregate use of the site. We consider the impact on your privacy to be small, and you can object at any time (see Your privacy rights).
• Consent. For analytics and advertising cookies and similar technologies where the law requires it, as it does in the EEA and the UK. You can withdraw consent at any time, and doing so does not affect what happened before.
• Legal obligation. Where we have to keep or disclose information to comply with the law.

Analytics

The site uses Google Analytics 4, a web analytics service from Google, to measure how visitors use it: which pages and calculators are visited, how people reach the site, and roughly where in the world and on what kind of device. We use the aggregated reports to fix problems and decide which calculators and guides to build next.

It works through the _ga cookies described above. We do not send the values you enter into calculators, your search terms, or your email address to Google Analytics, and we do not use it to identify individual people.

You can opt out of Google Analytics across all websites by installing Google's browser add-on, by blocking cookies in your browser, or by declining the consent message where one is shown. How Google handles the data is explained in how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

The technical data our hosting provider handles, described above, exists to deliver and secure the site and is separate from Google Analytics.

Advertising and third-party services

Some pages show advertising served by Google AdSense. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies and similar technologies to show ads based on your visits to this site and other sites, and Google can use ad cookies to show you ads based on what you have browsed. AdSense is not used on the About, Contact, Privacy Policy and Terms pages, on pages that are not indexed, or in embedded calculators.

We do not choose which ads you see, and we do not receive information that identifies you from Google's advertising.

Your choices

• Turn off or adjust personalised advertising in Google's ad settings.
• Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
• Respond to the consent message where one is shown, or block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

Our fonts and code, including the open-source library some calculators use to generate a downloadable PDF, are self-hosted on our own domain rather than loaded from a third-party CDN. The only other companies' servers a SahajTools page contacts are Google's, for Analytics and, where shown, advertising, and the providers listed under Service providers for hosting and email.

If we add another advertising network, analytics provider or similar service, we will update this policy before it goes live, name the provider, and explain what it collects and how to opt out.

Data sharing and disclosure

We do not sell personal information. Google, through Analytics and AdSense, collects information directly from your browser when you visit pages that load them, as described above, and some laws treat advertising of that kind as “sharing” or a “sale”. We do not give Google your email correspondence or anything you enter into a calculator. We disclose information we hold only:

• to the service providers below, as far as they need it to run the site and our email;
• where the law requires it, for example in response to a valid legal request;
• to protect the rights, safety or security of our users, the site or others; and
• with your permission.

Service providers

We rely on these providers:

• Hosting and delivery: Netlify. Netlify serves the site's pages and files and processes the technical data described above in order to do so. Its privacy statement explains how it handles personal data.
• Email: Gmail (Google). Messages sent to sahajtools@gmail.com are received and stored in a Gmail account, so Google also processes them. See Google's privacy policy.
• Analytics: Google Analytics (Google). Described under Analytics above.
• Advertising: Google AdSense (Google). Described under Advertising and third-party services above.

These providers work under their own terms and policies, and we do not control their practices. If we change providers, or add one that handles visitors' personal information, we will update this list.

Data retention

• Calculator inputs and results. We never receive them. Session storage, where it is used, is cleared by your browser when you close the tab or window.
• Emails. We keep them for as long as needed to deal with your message and to keep a record of a reported error or request, and then delete them. If you would like yours deleted sooner, ask us.
• Google Analytics and AdSense data. Kept by Google under its own policies and the data-retention setting of our Analytics property. Cookies expire on the schedule Google sets, which can be up to two years for the analytics cookies.
• Technical data at our hosting provider. Kept according to the provider's own retention practices, which we do not control.

Data security

The site is delivered over an encrypted HTTPS connection. It has no user accounts and no database of visitor information, and calculator inputs stay in your browser, so there is very little personal data to protect. The main thing we hold is email correspondence, which sits in an email account protected by the provider's security measures.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Ordinary email is not end-to-end encrypted, which is another reason not to send sensitive information. If we learn of a breach affecting personal information we hold, we will notify the people affected and the authorities where the law requires.

International data transfers

Our hosting, email, analytics and advertising providers operate internationally, so technical data, analytics and advertising data, and emails may be processed in countries other than the one where you live, including the United States. Those providers are responsible for the safeguards they apply, such as standard contractual clauses or other transfer mechanisms recognised by data protection law.

Calculator inputs are not transferred anywhere, because they stay in your browser.

Your privacy rights

You can ask us at sahajtools@gmail.com about the personal information we hold about you, which in practice means email correspondence. We do not hold the data Google Analytics and AdSense collect in a form that identifies you. For that data, use the tools under Advertising and third-party services, or contact Google.

If you are in the EEA or the UK

Data protection law gives you the right to access, correct or delete your personal information; to restrict or object to how it is processed, including where we rely on legitimate interests; to receive it in a portable format; and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. In the UK, that is the Information Commissioner's Office.

If you are in California

The California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the CPRA, gives residents the right to know what personal information a business collects and how it is used, to request its deletion or correction, to opt out of its sale or sharing, and not to be treated differently for using these rights. We do not sell personal information for money. Google AdSense may collect identifiers and internet activity, such as cookie identifiers, IP address and pages viewed, to show advertising based on your activity across sites, which California law can treat as “sharing” for cross-context behavioural advertising. To opt out, use Google's ad settings, block or delete cookies, or email us and we will help. The categories we collect directly are identifiers such as your email address and the content of messages you send us. Google collects the others through its own code on our pages.

How to make a request

Email sahajtools@gmail.com from the address you used to write to us, and say what you would like us to do. We may need to confirm that you are who you say you are before we act. We will respond within the time the applicable law allows, and we do not charge a fee unless a request is clearly excessive or repeated. Whether or not a particular law applies to us, we will handle reasonable requests in the same way.

Children's privacy

SahajTools is a general-audience educational site. It is not directed at children under 13, or under the higher minimum age that applies where you live, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children or knowingly show them personalised advertising. Using the calculators does not require any personal information.

If you are a parent or guardian and think a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.

Third-party links

Pages may link to other websites, for example to sources cited by a calculator or explanation. We do not control those sites or their privacy practices, and this policy does not apply to them. Check the policy of any site you visit.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site changes. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If a change affects how your information is handled, for example if we add another analytics or advertising service, we will update the policy before the change takes effect and, where the law requires, ask for your consent.
